TAWA organized-the last class of the year-May Cooking Class for whom interested in Turkish cuisine.  Ladies came together and learnt the recipe of the day's specials. Menu was Lahmacun (Turkish pizza), lentil soup, stuffed peppers (Dolma) and kaddaif dessert. All attendees cook together with the chef till the foods were ready. April Coffee Night at SMU PDF Print E-mail

TAWA held April coffee night program at SMU on 20 April, 2009. Topic was Touristic places in Turkey. A short presentation about Turkey was presented by Dr. Yasemin Alptekinoglu. Also some Turkish arts and crafts were showed to SMU people. Glenn & Virginia Lynden shared theirTurkey trip experiences with audiences after the presentation. TAWA visited Children's Medical Center of Dallas PDF Print E-mail

Turkish American Women Association visited the Children's Medical Center of Dallas and made a donation to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders on April 15, 2009. Money was raised by selling foods and crafts prepared by TAWA’s volunteers at the Turkish Food and Craft Sale event at the Southern Methodist University In November, 2008. TAWA’s representatives were welcomed, and given a tour of the facility at the oncology department. (April 15, 2009, Dallas, Texas)

TAWA hosted Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Elba Garcia PDF Print E-mail

Turkish American Women Association (TAWA) hosted a ladies luncheon on April 11, 2009 at the Turquoise Center. Dr. Elba Garcia, Dallas Mayor Pro Tem honered us as our guest speaker. The title of her speech was "Too good to throw away". She talked about the importance of recycling and the improvements made in this regard in the Dallas area.  After the presentation, ladies enjoyed delicious food from Turkish Cuisine which was sponsored by TAWA. TAWA at UTD International Week PDF Print E-mail

TAWA volunteers attended UTD International week in March 30. In the opening event, Passport to the World, scheduled for Monday, March 30, from 12-2 p.m., TAWA represented Turkey with Turkish Student Assoc. (TSA) through creativity in crafts, food, design and artifacts. TAWA ladies prepared examples of delicious Turkish Cuisine which received the "Best Cuisine Award".

TAWA visited Pauline Medrano, Council Member of the City of Dallas on February 24, 2009. We briefly introduced TAWA and talked about the importance of supportive programs for our community.  We invited Ms. Medrano to our future luncheon as a guest speaker and a participant.

March Coffee Night PDF Print E-mail

TAWA had its March Coffee Night on March 16. SMU graduate student Bedile Karabuga talked about "Turkish Wedding Customs and Traditions". Following the presentation the guests enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by TAWA ladies. Ladies had endless fun dancing and singing during the Henna Night activity.
